Reviews

Better known as a highly successful coach to Oxford University's Boat Race crew, the author has also travelled widely. Here he recalls two journeys made to East and Southern Africa in 1971 and 1972, and in particular to Uganda. Travelling on a shoestring and blessed with a sharp eye for detail and emotion, his itinerary took him to Karamoja, Murchison Falls, Lake Albert and the Rwenzoris. The result is a very readable record, enriched by the notable cross-section of people he stumbled upon, and by his own insatiable desire to live life ton its fullest. Splendid back and white photographs.
